Walking through the front door of this Topanga Canyon home feels like taking a deep breath. Right from the front door its energy entices and calls you. Big slider doors and large-scale windows was an obvious route to capitalise on the magnificent surrounding views of the canyon. Working with architect Tim McCarthy was wonderful. From a dilapidated barn-like structure, we remodelled this 1970’s gem into an eclectic modern haven. With nature as centre stage, we used organic materials whenever possible.

Being a family home, there’s plenty of space for kids to ride their scooters down the hallways without feeling chaotic, and a generous amount of elegance, enough to feel peaceful and held. Materials like teak, limestone and terrazzo offer a special kind of congruence.
What makes this house extra special are the in-built features carefully considered to suit the family’s lifestyle. The mahogany and birch stairway is architecturally simplistic and the center piece of the great room, while the master bathtub is an oversized wonderland and can fit a young family. Shortly after it was installed it was witness to a home birth.
